Physicochemical Properties of Soda and Kraft Lignin Extracted from Gmelina arborea Wood

Lignin, an amorphous biopolymer is one of the major components wood. In this study, lignin was extracted from Gmelina arborea wood using Soda and Kraft pulping processes. The characterized Fourier Transformed Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR), UV/visible spectrometer, electrospray ionization mass spectrometer scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results revealed that G. lignins contained several chemical functional groups. (KL) contain carboxyl thiol group in addition to other groups such as methoxyl, alcohols phenolic. UV/ visible spectroscopy results (SL) absorbed at higher wavelength than lignin. concentrations both conjugated non-conjugated phenolic were ESI-MS spectra composition monomers while dimers surface morphology heterogeneous with uneven particle size. These physicochemical properties will enhance their applications adsorbents, corrosion inhibitors production some industrial intermediates.
